About Jackson Park Bar and Grill
Jackson Park Bar and Grill is Chicago in “grand style” - a celebration of Chicago past
and present. As owners Phil Lotsoff and Jason Paskewitz explained, “We shared a
vision for something ‘big’ and ‘bold’. A place that reminded us of everything we love
about Chicago.” That vision manifested itself into a 9,000 square foot restaurant located
in River North two blocks from Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. Named after the location of
the 1893 World Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Jackson Park Bar and Grill is a bold
statement in the city’s Beaux Arts style of architecture and contemporary design.
From expansive columns and custom mosaic tiles to dreamy ‘cloud-like’ lighting and a
34-foot mahogany bar with ‘extension trays’, the dining room walks the perfect line
between Chicago ‘then and now’.
In the kitchen, Chef and Co-Owner Jason Paskewitz crafts ‘Contemporary Chicago
Cuisine’ best described as delicious modern-day Chicago dishes inspired by Italian,
French and classic American preparations. A self-described ‘throw back’, Chef
Paskewitz takes cues from traditional dining while tapping into nearly a decade of
experience in Chicago. The menu is approachable and inviting, offering dishes that
everyone can love and understand. But make no mistake; the food is pure Paskewitz, in
other words, the perfect combination of originality and flavor. As Jason explains, “My
dishes taste great and stand on their own. People can relate to my menu and are
sometimes surprised by the little twists here and there that I make to a once predictable
dish. However, I am not looking to make anything overly complicated just delicious
and original. After all a great steak should taste like a great steak and a perfect bowl of
Bolognese is a work of art.”
In addition to the 180 seat dining room, guests can enjoy Jason’s ‘Contemporary Chicago
Cuisine’ at the stunning, 34-foot mahogany bar. Practically a destination of its own, the
bar has custom-made ‘extension trays’ that extend from the bar to meet the guest. These‘extension trays’ serve as mini tables making dining at the bar a most civilized
experience. While seated at the bar, guests can select a bottle of wine from the 500-bottle
wine list that was hand-selected by consulting sommelier, Robert Houde, formerly of
Charlie Trotter’s. The list is ‘user friendly’ running the gamut from American and
international ‘show stoppers’ to ‘any day-of-the-week’ bottles.
Jackson Park Bar and Grill is about having a great time eating and drinking with friends,
family and colleagues any time. Open seven days a week, guests can eat at the bar,
enjoy a drink in the lounge, get cozy in a candle-lit window seat or reserve a big table in
the back for power lunches or closing dinners, whatever the occasion. Phil and Jason
have created a restaurant that celebrates Chicago, a city second-to-none. |
